Blink and Guide Dog #8 - Is guide dog for me?

In San Diego, Nikki has been around many guide dog handlers, both totally blind and those with low vision. So she knew how smart these dogs were and the special relationship they build with their humans! By the time Nikki graduated from SDSU, more & more people around her were switching to guide dog from cane; even Mayumi back in Japan got her dog in 98!!! They had all been talking Nikki into getting a guide dog. But Nikki wasn't sure if a dog was for her. Certainly a dog would be a wonderful companion and would give her safer travel especially at night. However, After all, it's a living thing and a big responsibility! In short, she wasn't sure if she was a "dog person" enough to take such a big commitment!

Guide dogs are great although I give my hat off to Nikki for thinking it through. After all it is a big commitment not to mention responsibility. Not only financial but emotional, and physical too. Such as grooming, walking and playing and getting the dog all ready to go out too. For me it's a blessing to have my guide combinational dog.

Nikki; I experienced a similar situation -- we got our little pug - I was wondering if I was a dog person -- soon realized I was and Pantera followed a year later!

Thank you for your comments. Yes, it took a long time to make up my mind. But I'm glad I did it.
