Dear Government Officials:
I, a hard-working guide dog, respectfully request a new department be added to your government system. That is the Department of Pedestrians & Bicyclers. (DPB)
You see, if you drive a car, you must obey the strict set of rules. And if you mess up, you get a steep find or even jail time! But what about those pedestrians & bikers who are all over the streets! They don't pay attention while walking, cut others, and stop all the sudden! Half the time, they are either talking to one another or on the phone! Bikers are worse because they are way faster than walkers. Bikers are not supposed to be on the sidewalk anyway, right??? And, skate borders! Or they're scary!!! Emagine having to navigate all that, guiding a blind person!!! Yes, that's my job with minimal pay!!!
Of course, I am glad that you have stricter rules for cars because if we collide with one of those, both my person & I would be dead whereas a collision with a pedestrian is not as serious and harmful. However, navigating through these pedestrians is extremely difficult and hazardous! Sometimes, collisions do happen dispite my best judgement, which often result in surprize, pain, fall, etc. Even when no pain or injury involved, I have to go through an annoying rework or, worse, a correction (a quick yank of my collar) depending on the situation including my person's mood!!!
Therefore, I humbly suggest an establishment of a new department to enforce the regulations for walkers, bikers, and skate borders.
Yours Truthfully,
A Yellow Lab Guide Dog
