CCB Meeting & Puppy Raiser Appreciation Luncheon

Last Saturday was a busy day! We went to the Blind Community Center in the morning for CCB meeting. Nikki is not a committed member of the California Council of the Blind yet, but she's planning to go to the fall convention in LA to check out the Guide Dog Users of CA. So she figured that she should attend a chapter meeting once before the convention. The topic of the day was "quiet cars" being very popular. While quiet hybrid cars have good gas milage and good for the environment, it raises a concern for blind pedestrians who listen to the traffic to figure out when to cross, etc. More stress for guide dogs too!

After the meeting was the annual puppy raiser appreciation luncheon, hosted by the Blind Community Center! This is the real purpose that I came!!! I got to meet many puppies in training and their raisers, and of course, some guides and their humans too! Most of them were from GDB, but there were a few puppies from GDA. Nikki sat with 2 families for lunch. A high school girl who sat next to Nikki reminded me of my raiser Karli. It's cool that many teanagers are involved in puppy raising! While humans ate and chatted, I had a little party under the table with Macoy (8-month old PIT) and a 9-year-old CC dog! They were both beautiful yellow labs. Although Macoy was a puppy, he was almost as big as me!!! People shared funny dog stories and such. Thank God Nikki kept her mouth shut!!!

Many, many times said, but thanks a million to all puppy raisers for building a good foundation to be a guide dog!
