Happy Labor Day Friends!
I know my fans are patiently waiting for the Princess to come into this story! (WAGS)
But for that to happen, we have to bring Nikki somehow to America, right?!?! Well, it started like this...
One day still at the blind school, Mayumi asked Nikki to go to an English language class with her. It was offered at the YMCA, and the class was in the evening. So Mayumi needed someone to go with her in order to get a permission to go off campus after 7pm. Nikki thought for a moment; "Why would I go to an English class at night? We already have English at school, and it's hard and boring..." Nevertheless, Nikki agreed to go with Mayumi because getting out at night sounded exciting. Plus, she would study with sighted people of all ages!
Unlike school, the Y's English class was taught by native speakers! It wasn't all that boring translation and vocabulary memorization. Instead, students were highly encouraged to speak and make many mistakes! Teachers tried hard so the classroom experience was as American as possible! Nikki loved the class; she was a different person after she came out of her shy self! She felt positive when she was speaking English.
At the school dorm, Mayumi and Nikki had fun with their new words. It didn't matter how broken it was. It was just like their own magic words that no one else understood!
